Skin care has always felt like something I knew I should be doing, but with a mountain of misinformation out there I never felt confident that my purchases were worthwhile, or even doing anything at all! I knew that I should be cleansing and moisturizing, but with what? I didn't know which products were really effective and which just had fancy labels. And with the outrageous prices of some companies, proper skin care started to seem like an unattainable goal. Skin Care Ingredients, Dupes, and Deals changed my whole outlook. Carolyn manages to organize an incredible amount of information into a concise, understandable and extremely helpful guide. She explains the purposes of the ingredients in skin care products. She shows you what to look for and what to watch out for. Her guide can be referred back to time and again to assist in making the right choices. But my favorite section was the dupes! This book showed me that anyone can have a wonderful skin care routine without spending a fortune. In fact proper skin care is totally affordable! I feel much more confident and am actually excited to start my own personalized routine!
This book takes the common ingredients you find in the ingredients list of skin care products and organizes them in an understandable manner. It's challenging when you're looking at skin care products and every company says their product is the best. It's difficult to trust what claims are true and which are financially motivated. Carolyn did the work of dredging through all the claims and information out there and provides unbiased information about skin care product components. After a quick read, I already feel more informed and have already looked up some of the products mentioned in the book. This book is beneficial for people just starting a daily skin regime and needing some general direction, as well as serving as a detailed reference for those looking for more in-depth research based reviews of ingredients. My favorite section is the dupes. Who doesn't love getting quality products at a lower price!
The format of this wonderful skin care book is so helpful. In the very first chapter Carolyn Greenwald tells you what you need to know about how to take care of your skin. She writes clearly and shows the reader that it doesn't have to be a complicated or expensive process. I've been using her information for about a month and already my face feels clean, clear and protected. Even if you just read the very first chapter called The Short Answer you will learn about how to treat your skin properly. Then keep reading and you will understand the scientific reasons for following her plan.
This book is an excellent resource for those of us who want to take care of our skin and make informed decisions when we purchase skin care products. I learned a great deal and am glad that I have this book in my kindle library.
I love how clearly a manageable routine and options are laid out! No more guessing or falling for false promises and fancy packaging. The products and routines are well researched and explained. I strongly recommend this book for anyone who has wondered if they were using the correct products at the right time, or hoping to do more for their skin but not knowing where to start.
I had always suspected that many of the skin products out there made promises that delivered poor results. Carolyn has done a superb job of walking us through a very doable skin care routine and informing us that skin care products need not be expensive or complicated to help us care for our skin. Clear, concise writing too!
Carolyn has done all the research I always wish I'd done to take the mystery out of ALL.THOSE.PRODUCTS and all.those.promises. She breaks it down into what really works (and why), and what is worth the money - but also (more importantly) recommends an affordable (and science-based) skin care routine. She writes, "think of me as your friend in the know" - a smart friend who generously shared her research. Worth reading! -heather
