Gale Leach ran her own business as a techincal writer, editor, and graphic designer from 1990-2004. She has also worked as a teacher and interpreter of American Sign Language. She is now retired and lives in Surprise, Arizona, where she discovered and fell in love with pickleball. An outstanding read, particularly for beginning and intermediate players. It provides not only the basics of the game, but some tips on strategies, covers the more obvious nuances. It provides some insight into positioning and thinking in terms of planning so your game becomes more proactive and less reactive. Hopefully we'll see a sequel to deal more with the "art" that takes an intermediate player to the next level. A deep discussion of anticipation, body language, reading the shoulders, paddle, feet and motion. This book mentions them in passing, but you will come away with no greater understanding of them, you'll simply know they exist. Hard to write a review on a book because one book seldom covers everything. The claim on the cover says "techniques and strategies for everyone", and I guess that's what you get, things that apply to everyone. This book can take you to being a 2.5-3.0 player. If you aren't already better than that or don't know what you are, I think you will find this an exciting and eye-opening book and it can't help but improve your game.

Great book for Pickleball. I am an ex-tennis player and new to pickleball - the explanations of shot dynamics, rules, techniques and strategies are helping me to both learn the game and to understand the differences between my past and present pastimes. I checked a lot of books before purchasing and I felt this was the best choice. After receiving it, I am sure of that. It is thorough without overwhelming the reader and has a lot of photos for the visual learner on shot making. Nicely laid out - I will refer back to sections as I become more proficient. Highly recommended.

Good for a beginning player as most of the book is pretty elementary. Intermediate players would probably do better with youtube videos for tips. However, I really liked her diagrams of where, in the court, to expect an opponent's ball to land which clarified to me yet again, how important it is to be at the kitchen line. This has given me more confidence at the net. Just a simple thing but has really helped my game.

Excellent book for understanding and improving your game, whether a beginner or experienced player of the game. Ms Leach provides a solid resource for the game of pickleball, providing a glossary of terms, strategies for singles and doubles play, tips and tricks for improving grips, serves and returns, and much more. The helpful illustrations in this book give readers at all levels of play additional reinforcement of all the important fundamentals of this fast-growing sport. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking to improve his or her pickleball play on the court and knowledge of the sport in general.

The Art of Pickleball is a basic primer on the game. It provides all the basic information on rules, court dimensions and strategy. As the books intro states, you can pick and choose which chapters are most interesting to you but I read most of the book

This is an excellent guide to pickleball. Along with how the game evolved and is played, it moves into strategy of play. All the rules are delineated as well as special circumstances and cases. A must for anyone wanting to advance into the game.

I have really enjoyed this book. I've only played PB since November and play with quite a few people from my 55+ neighborhood. After I started using thebook, people started asking if I've been taking lesions. I'm reluctant to tell them about the book.I pick one area in the book, like putting spin on the ball, and work on that for a while. Once I see improvement, I take another area to concentrate on.

This book is for the beginner and the advanced player. From learning the basic moves and shots to strategy and tactics, there is something for everyone. It is also good for someone teaching others to play. I go back to this book for reminders and hints for better play.

This volume goes a long way in bringing Jung's work in to a philosophical and psychological context that is useful to practitioners in the field and scholars. By introducing the lens phenomenological inquiry Brooke is able to take Jung's often mystical and work and bring its insights back to the world. Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of Jung, but this volume helps address some of the difficulties that arise from attempting to apply his work.

I had the good fortune of studying under the author and the author of the foreword. Brooke clearly shows the common ground between the qualitative methodology of existential phenomenology and Jung's methodology, both giving primacy to lived experience over allegiance to conceptual formulations. In exploring this common ground, Brooke gives an invaluable means for refining and continuing Jung's work, honoring the psyche.

Avoid this 2009 edition. It has numerous typographical errors, to the point of being almost unintelligible at times. The original 1991 edition has been updated but me, the author, and republished by Routledge as a Classic Edition in 2015. Please purchase that copy. It is also less than half the price that I see asked for a used copy of this awful edition. I would like to give the Routledge edition 5 stars. :) Roger Brooke, Ph.D., author.

In the interest of full disclosure, I must share at the outset that:1. I have known the author, Gerald Eades Bentley Jr. (Jerry) for most of my life. He was like a second father to me,2. I am mentioned in the book, and3. I grew up hearing many of the stories he has shared in this book. They fascinated me each time Jerry or his wife Beth told them to us.Most of Jerry’s writing has been academic – he was a teacher, a Blake scholar and a collector. But those of us who knew him personally, loved him and enjoyed listening to his stories of adventures in England, Algeria, France, India, China and other places, had been asking him for years to record them. I am delighted he finally did.Jerry passed away unexpectedly in August 2017 and his daughters were determined to publish his memoir posthumously. Having the book to read now is like having Jerry nearby. When I flip through the pages of Boondoggles: Travels of a Restless Professor, it is almost as if we are sitting together on the porch of his summer cottage at Lake Michigan – Jerry’s deep voice is telling me a story with his unique turn of phrase and sense of humor. In the pages of Boondoggles I see his unique storytelling style, his ease at engaging with people of any age and any background, and I experience all over again those adventures with polar bears, long boats, kangaroos and protest marches, that regaled me throughout my childhood.The kind of traveling Jerry and Beth, and often their daughters, Sarah and Julia, did cannot happen any more because the world has changed irrevocably. This makes Boondoggles a precious document of a bygone era. Jerry and Beth met in 1950 in a pub in Wales, then by chance that same summer on a bridge in Venice, and finally, a few weeks later in Paris, after which they realized they knew whom they wanted to spend the rest of their lives with – each other. That could have been the end of the traveling, as it is for many. Jerry could have gone on to be an academic and settled down to work and married life with Beth in a university town. Instead he became an academic, they made a base in Toronto where he taught at the university, and Beth also made it possible for them to travel frequently. They taught and lectured, exploring the world along the way. Often they were in a new country for a year at a time, and frequently that was the starting point of other expeditions to far-flung parts of the world. From bicycling in France on their honeymoon while the Tour de France was in progress – Beth cycled along with competitors for a bit – to living in a houseboat on Kashmir’s Dal Lake years later, the Bentleys did it all. As Jerry writes, “For 59 years, Beth managed my life firmly and inconspicuously. Hurricanes, revolutions, poverty, respectability – nothing fazed her. Beth could always manage.”You will learn more about Beth, and Jerry, as you travel through Boondoggles but you do not have to know them personally to start this book and enjoy it. If you like adventures, if you put a high value on friendship, if you enjoy a good turn of phrase, and if you are an avid traveler, then this book will carry you away on a Kashmiri carpet to lands of wonder and mystery, to groaning tables of food and wine, to new languages learned, to lifelong friendships formed, to places seen that you might never reach on your own.

One of the best cookbooks I’ve ever bought. Fascinating facts and traditions about all the schools, which my husband loved reading. I like that not only are there a ton of recipes but recipes for cocktails and mocktails and suggestions for twists on recipes. For instance there is a page with tons of different suggestions for stuffing jalapeños with a photo of each style. The recipes are creative but not too difficult and the images are great and festive. The forward by Finebaum is a great touch. Not just a gift for tailgating, a great gift for any cook really.

Good recipes, pictures and stories!! I bought 2 more to ship to out of state friends who are SEC fanatics!

A very fun cookbook. Love it! Used it for a tailgate party.

Featuring all of the SEC schools, complete with a short history about the University in the section, this cookbook has dishes representative of what readers might find at a tailgating party. The introduction includes tips for tailgating that are helpful to anyone having a backyard party, including safe holding temperatures and a handy chart for grilling meats and fish.Right off the bat, there are recipes such as Cranberry-Apple Breakfast Crumble (p. 42), a delicious offering that would be perfect for dessert as well, and Razorback Breakfast Casserole (p. 30), a savory dish filled with enough protein and carbohydrates to give eaters a good start to the day. There are refreshing beverage recipes for drinks like Watermelon-Mint Lemonade (p. 55), as well as a three page spread of spritzers for every team (pp. 71-73).Snacks and Dips are plentiful, just as one might expect. Readers can find recipes for tasty treats such as Ham and Cheddar Pinwheels (p. 38), Loaded Brisket Nachos (p. 167), and a two page spread of Jalapeño Poppers with recipes for each team (pp. 106-107). The Soups and Chilis for many of the teams are among my favorites. Creole Gumbo (p. 117) has a thick, rich base and is perfect for a cold day. Slow Cooker Chicken Soup (p. 121) is low effort and the tasty benefits make it a worthy dish.There are many recipes that readers would expect to find in a cookbook of this nature, such as sliders and chicken wings, but the unexpected such as desserts like Classic Apple Cobbler (p. 239), Sopapilla Cheesecake Bars (p. 250), and Cherry Pie Bars (p. 252) make this book a delight. Readers do not have to be football fans to check out this cookbook and all that read it will be pleasantly surprised.
