"A Terrific Resource!...You can see the Old Testament in the original Hebrew next to the English and the New Testament in Greek plus English. Knowing the EXACT word that's being used in a particular verse can be very enlightening." --ArtC, customer review on Barnes and Noble"This Bible is user-friendly. The layout of this Bible is easy to read and follow in the Hebrew & Greek. The numbers are well displayed to trace to the Strong's Exhaustive Concordance... I can now finally satisfy my curiosity about complete and accurate word meanings. Having access to the whole Interlinear Bible makes cross referencing much faster..." --Sharon, Customer Review on Hendrickson Rose"It's the best Bible ever! Well, it is worth $30 to the door. But a little work and this could have been a spectacular interlinear. For one thing, the book has a feel of 'photocopied', especially with regard to the errata at the front & back. It's obvious. Also, in the into you're told that the OT Hebrew (remember, you only get Hebrew OT and Greek NT) is Masoretic, and that "the type used here was set in 1866 by the British and Foreign Bible Society." The NT is from a version published in 1894-1902. That tells you right there that they didn't want to do the work of making their own, preferring instead to use un-copyrighted (100 year rule) material of someone else's. How depressing! If you look into it, you'll quickly find that the bible's text is not 'free', which is why we see such useless translations since the original source text, among other more petty political, and even anti-semetic, reasons. The preface is consumed with essentially 'apologies' for the way the text was translated.I want to learn to speak biblical Hebrew, so no doubt this will be great for that. Had I had a chance to look at this in detailed before buying, I would have had a hard time parting with $50 for it, but with Prime, $30 to the door is manageable.I'm not silly enough to stick to one bible/version, and am seeking the source material in the OT (trying to learn Hebrew in the process), so I can understand and identify subjective translations made over the ages, and possibly even gain insight into why.It doesn't take a bible scholar to see that English is the worst language yet to have Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek translated into. the very foundations of those languages is far from modern English, and so you see frequent "Square Hole Round Peg" jamming in translation-or worse yet, 'versions'.I appreciate that the editor admitted what they had done, instead of trying to hurriedly make it their own like the patently awful 'New' series' of bibles we are now flooded with that change the text dramatically to 'reach the people'... So, ancient Egyptians had cell phones? Where does it stop?Great for $30, only because the paper is that microscopically thin kind you can basically breath through-but a little time bit better thickness. You can see the pics I uploaded, and the keen observer will find the page count, and my measurement of 2", and come to the same conclusion without inspection.
If you're a novice, i.e. the lowest common denominator between Professors, Rabbis, and you is an appreciation for Greek and Jewish cuisine, and you want something comprehensive, The Interlinear Bible is the way to go.Yes, you should get a magnifying glass, but if you have 20/20, you can manage--it's like reading the small text in a warranty package. I'm glad the text is not larger; otherwise, there'd be volumes to purchase.Yes, the Old Testament is in Hebrew, and the New Testament is in Greek; it's redundant to have the opposite. Having a Greek Old Testament is like having a Greek Beowulf. No, it is not light and compact. It's size is similar to volume of the Encyclopedia Britannica. No, it does not teach you Hebrew or Greek, but you can learn through context clues. It teaches you the basics of each language and how to use the resource as a whole. The translation is done for you. Using this resource in concert with Strong's Concordance, Vine's Dictionary, and Study Bibles like Scofield's KJV or MacArthur's NASB is what makes it happen. You get out what you put in.Overall, it gets the job done. For example, if I see a word in Scofield's KJV or MacArthur's NASB and am curious about its origin or definition, The Interlinear Bible gives it to you in its original form and has a whole translation on the side. A "Strong's tag number" is on top of the word, which allows you to review the history, meaning, explication, etc. in Strong's Concordance and Vine's Dictionary. Also, the tag number links the word to its other uses in the Bible, including similar words. When you pursue its other uses in the Bible, there's additional commentary in the footnotes that may not be in the other resources. Following this process pays in dividends, even for a layman like me. It's circular, wonderful, and awe-inspiring--the depth and majesty of the Holy Word is beyond compare. I've only been doing this for a couple months, and what I understood to be a source of infinite knowledge was to my degree of understanding a pond of knowledge, which has turned into a lake, a lake, into an ocean, and it keeps growing bigger.Backdrop: I'm a novice. I'm a low-level Auto Claims Adjuster. I have a B.A. from a public university. When Christ saved me, it was around this time, 2014. I spent roughly a year reading through a KJV and John MacArthur's NASB (which is great for someone who wants biblical commentary that is easy to understand yet comprehensive). Listening to sermons by Pastor MacArthur, Pastor Paul Sheppard, and my local church, it became apparent that in order to take my studies to the next level, I'll need to do what they do--study Scripture in its original form. Now, not knowing what they were, I remember these Pastors mentioning Scofield's Bible, Vine's Dictionary, and Strong's Concordance; I remember whole sermons revolving around the translation and semantics of a particular Greek or Hebrew word or phrase. I had no idea where to begin, so I came to Amazon. I jumped when I saw this resource and then sat down and worried when I saw the comments. Seeing a Youtube video of it helped remove half the negative comments--buying a magnifying glass with it helped remove another third. And, if I remember correctly, not being a student of Hebrew, a Rabbi, or a person wanting to sing in Hebrew helped remove the rest.I hope this review helps. Godspeed.
