This is a rather well-written education about money; the author speaks about not only the history of money (as the title suggests), but we are also taken on a journey through investing, the Federal Reserves, the bartering system and even the bitcoin.I didn't realize India still has a fair once a year in which folks can leave the wallets at home and barter for goods - food, clothing, just about anything. Sounds like an event I wouldn't mind taking in myself!This book is full of cool tidbits about a subject all of us use daily or at least stress over daily - but never stop to think of how it even got started; I was stunned to learn we used leather pieces as currency for about 30 years - and also it was the Chinese who began to first use paper currency.All in all, a good read for sure, I might hang on to this one for a while and go back through it to make sure I didn't miss anything!

I originally got the book on KU, but decided to purchase it so I wouldnt have to return it.There is some excellent informatoin in here about the history of money/gold/currency systems and some excellent facts within the pages. I particular liked the part about Gold and the Gold Standard. I am a Gold investor, so I am bias in my forms of information, but the history of "the gold standard' and the information about Gold was particularly interesting to me.All in all - though it is a history type book - it was entertaining and well written. Thanks Mike!
Short, poorly edited, and disjoint. I bought it because I had a simple question to answer (when was the first money put into use, and what was it) and the book was cheap.It answered the question, but I got what I paid for. If I really want to know about it, I should spring for the book by Niall Ferguson.

A really interesting short read. Of course we know the general idea of how money started when we were still in school but there were a few facts that were mentioned in this book that were enlightening. But what I enjoyed most was the fun facts chapter. Certainly glad that our ATMs do not use radioactive inks anymore.
